Li Ka Shing Program in Gender and Science

Gender and science is a vibrant field that incorporates research and advocacy on the some of the most critical issues of our time. UC Berkeley's Li Ka Shing Program in Gender and Science (G&S) recognizes that the field has expanded exponentially to intersect with work in a broad range of social justice spheres, including the role science plays in determining public understandings of gender; gender theory as applied to medicine, the environment, and militarization; and the role of science in sexuality studies. G&S utilizes an intersectional approach in analyzing the relationship of gender to science, examining linkages with race, class, nation, dis/ability and sexuality. Our program emphasizes the relationship of women in diverse communities to issues such as the environment, war, technology, and new media. These web pages highlight scholarly research, advocacy efforts, and other resources domestically and internationally to further understanding of and ameliorate conditions that perpetuate the underrepresentation of women in scientific and engineering disciplines and to support and promote scholarship that explores the many diverse links between gender and science.
